How to change/complete a CPR (Legal type) category request.
A ‘CPR’ category (formerly known as a ‘Legal type’) is a category that the Registrant must fall into in order to meet the Canadian Presence Requirements or CPR. The Canadian Presence Requirements (CPR) are set out in the Canadian Presence Requirements for Registrants, (http://cira.ca/sites/default/files/attachment/policies/cprregistrants-en.pdf). A CPR category can be updated on a contact, however the CPR category can only be updated within the same classification (individual or non-individual). For example, a permanent resident of Canada (with a valid value of RES) can update their CPR category to a Canadian citizen (with a valid value of CCT). The classification remains individual.
Another example is when a Canadian company changes its valid value from an association to a corporation. The CPR value is updated, and the classification remains non-individual.
Please find the legal category type that best meets/suits your registrant type from the options below.
