How to add a favicon in WordPress

A favicon is a small icon displayed in a web browser’s address bar or tab when you visit a site or add a bookmark. It allows site owners to create and display a small branding element, helping users visually identify a website.

A favicon is typically a 16 x 16 pixels graphic, saved as favicon.ico in the root directory of your server. Since WordPress v4.3, users can create a favicon simply by uploading a suitable image using the platform’s Customize menu.

Log in to WordPress via the HostPapa Dashboard. Log in to your WordPress administration dashboard and select Appearance > Customize from the sidebar.

Customize menu

Navigate to the Site Identity section and look for the Site Icon option.

Click Select Image and upload or select a square image file size 512 x 512px or greater. If you upload a rectangular image, WordPress will allow you to crop it before selection.

Click the Save & Publish button at the top of the screen to lock in your choice.
