Do you need to make changes to your wp-config.php (configuration file)? In this article, we will show you how to find the wp-config.php file for your WordPress site.
Note: We strongly recommend you back up your WordPress before making any changes to your wp-config file.
Where to find your wp-config.php file
wp-config.php is one of the most important files in your WordPress installation. This file contains your website’s configuration details and is located in the root of your WordPress file directory.
The wp-config.php file isn’t included automatically when you first download or install WordPress. The WordPress setup process creates a wp-config.php file based on the information you provide.
You will need to download the wp-config file via FTP or your cPanel’s File Manager.
The wp-config.php file is usually located in the root folder of your website with other folders like /wp-content/.
Once you have downloaded the wp-config.php file, you can make the appropriate changes then re-upload it to your web server. Before you make any changes to your config file, we recommend that you make a backup of WordPress. Additionally, because this file contains sensitive information, we recommend that you don’t edit it unless you need to.
