You may have noticed information about the ICANN domain statuses in the My Services and My Domains sections of your HostPapa Dashboard. In this article, we’ll show you what each of these statuses means, and answer some frequently asked questions.
ICANN domain statuses in the HostPapa dashboard
The four statuses that appear in the HostPapa dashboard are as follows.
If you see this status, no action is needed.
This status indicates that ICANN has identified that a verification email was sent to you. Learn more about ICANN verification rules in our Knowledge Base article. You need to locate the email and click the verification link or click Resend verification to have the email resent.
Validation email can be triggered for one of the following reasons:
- A new domain name is registered with HostPapa.
- A domain name is transferred to HostPapa from another registrar.
- The registrant’s contact information (name, organization, or email address) is changed.
- The WDRP or ERRP (Day 30 and Day 5 Renewal Notices) message bounces, indicating an invalid email address. See below for more information on WDRP and ERRP.
The disabled symbol means that the verification process (clicking on the email link) has not occurred, and the domain name has been disabled. To fix this, click Resend verification to have the email resent. Once the verification link in the email is clicked, your domain will be enabled again, and the status will change to Verified.
N/A – Not applicable
The Not Applicable status means that the domain name is not a gTLD and is not governed by ICANN. See below for more information about gTLDs.
Note: Before clicking Resend verification, please ensure that you have access to the listed Registrant email address. This email address may be different from your HostPapa account email address, and it is visible in the Domains Contacts section of the HostPapa Dashboard. If you don’t have access to the email address or if it’s a promotional domain service with HostPapa contact details filled, please contact HostPapa Support.
What is WDRP?
The WHOIS Data Reminder Policy (WDRP) is an ICANN policy designed to protect domain name registrants. The policy requires your registrar to remind you to review and update your contact information once a year. The reminder, which is also referred to as a WDRP Notice, is usually sent via email and asks you to review the WHOIS information, including contact information associated with your domain name(s) and make corrections or updates when necessary.
What is ERRP?
ERRP stands for Expired Registration Recovery Policy. This refers to the mandatory renewal notifications sent by the registrar to the domain registrant (the owner). One notification is sent 30 days before the domain expiry date, and the second is sent five days before.
What is a gTLD?
gTLD stands for Generic Top-Level Domain. It’s the top-level name of a specific Internet address, such as .com (commercial), .net (originally intended for Internet service providers, but now used for many purposes), .org (for non-profit organizations, industry groups, and others), .edu (for educational institutions). For example, in the domain name www.hostpapa.com, .com is the chosen gTLD.
